Leading nutrition industry publisher New Hope Natural Media (publisher of FF&N) has teamed up with Japan’s leading health business publisher, Health Business Magazine Co (HBM), to present Natural Products Expo Japan in Tokyo in May 2005.

The show will expand and build on the successful Functional Foods Exhibition organised for the past seven years by HBM. The New Hope partnership will ensure further internationalisation of the event to include additional product sectors, expand buyer outreach and energise a world-class education programme.

“We think that the Japanese market offers tremendous potential for leading overseas manufacturers of natural foods, functional foods, supplements and natural personal care products,” said Nobuo Iwasawa, president of Health Business Magazine. “Together with New Hope, we will provide an excellent platform for foreign companies to meet with Japanese partners through Natural Products Expo Japan.”

It will be the only event in Japan to bring all the nutrition industry sectors together in the same venue — functional, natural and organic foods; dietary supplements; personal care and spa products; raw ingredients; and herbal and alternative remedies.

Japan is a leader in the functional foods sector, but can be a tough market to crack — because of regulations as well as language and cultural barriers.

“We intend to break down these barriers at Natural Products Expo Japan — by providing interpretation and translation services, simultaneous interpretation of conference sessions, and heavy overseas conference content and speakers, in addition to assisted appointments and meetings between exhibitors and buyers,” said Scott Griggs, New Hope Asia’s managing director.
