Two major industry conferences are being launched to tackle the latest trends and issues key to the European natural foods industry. The Healthy Foods European Summit will take place in Brussels in October, to be followed by Nutracon Europe in spring 2006.

Organized by New Hope Natural Media, publisher of Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals, they are part of the company’s growing portfolio of global natural products events. The European Summit will address cutting-edge food and beverage innovations, bringing together senior industry executives and leading opinion formers from legislative and scientific circles to discuss, debate, inform and exchange ideas.

The event will be co-produced with leading industry publication New Nutrition Business, and is supported by members of the UK Food & Drink Federation.

Julian Mellentin, New Nutrition Business publisher and co-producer, said: “The event is designed to give senior executives meaningful insights into key trends in the marketplace, and will deliver a refreshing change in conference format by creating a forum for frank and open debate.

“The programme will address relevant and timely issues facing the industry, such as: Why is the European food and beverage marketplace one of the least innovative in the world? And what are the major industry players doing to address the problems of obesity and ill health?”

Nutracon Europe will be based on the already-established Nutracon conference format in China and the US. This senior executive conference with supporting exhibiting opportunities will be co-produced with European Advisory Services (EAS), a leading Brussels-based health consultancy.

Focusing on the food supplements and functional cosmetics markets, the event will address the expanding European market trends and regulations, with a particular emphasis on Eastern Europe. It will also deliver provocative case studies and cover issues such as enhancing innovation, product approval and product claims.

“This conference will provide a unique perspective on the practical realities of doing business in Europe, stretching from France to Russia,” said Simon Pettman, director of EAS. “European countries are growing closer together and Nutracon Europe is targeted at providing insight and analysis into the trends determining the future shape of the market.”

Commenting on the new events, Susan Haeger, vice president of strategic global affairs for New Hope, said: “We have traditionally served the health and nutrition industry in Europe through the trade fair platform Expo Europe; however, through research and consulting with key industry and trade parties, we have jointly decided that there was a greater desire within the European marketplace for significant new information and networking programmes.

“This year, New Hope will be ending its Expo Europe trade fair and focusing on higher-level educational activities through these new events. We have received considerable industry support and believe that these events will provide crucial opportunities for every segment of the industry.”
