Update on key proposals in the EU

Novel food proposal
Discussions on the proposal have been delayed and are expected to start again in January 2010.

Food labelling proposal
Ongoing discussions in the Council and the Parliament. The adoption of the first reading in the Parliament is expected in May 2010.

Nutrient profiles proposal
The proposal is officially in the hands of European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso's cabinet. The issue might be dealt with by the new Barroso Commission to be appointed in November.

Proposal on the setting of maximum levels for vitamins and minerals in food supplements
Discussions are ongoing within the Commission and Member State working group, and a proposal is expected in 2010.
