Green is the world
As of April 2009, Datamonitor found 458 launches of package-goods products that claim to be sustainable, environmentally friendly or 'eco-friendly.' If that pace holds all year, it will triple the number of green launches last year, despite the recession.

Monsanto hears 'nein'
German Agriculture Minister Ilse Aigner announced in April that the cultivation of MON 810, a GM corn produced by the American biotech giant Monsanto, will be prohibited in Germany, as will the sale of its seed.

Canada has a big "O"
Canada's Organic Products Regulations went into effect June 30. A new organic logo will be allowed on products that contain at least 95 per cent organic content. The regulations apply to both domestic and imported products.
