Lanny Barnes of Durango, Colorado, hit every target in the shooting portion of her 15km individual biathlon race to finish 23rd on Thursday at the Winter Olympics in British Columbia. It was the best finish for a US female athlete in the event since 1994.

Barnes, who is sponsored by elete, makers of a powdered electrolyte replacement product, hit 20 of 20 targets during the race. The 15km race features four shooting stages, with the athlete shooting from both standing and prone positions.

"I was really excited," Barnes said. "This is my first time ever cleaning a four (stage). It was amazing to do it here at the Olympics."

Barnes' next and final race is the womens 4x6km relay on Tuesday.
