Reutter, teammates take relay bronze

US short track speed skater Katherine Reutter, who is sponsored by Bioenergy Ribose, earned a bronze medal Wednesday when the US team took third place in the 3000m team relay at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

The US skaters had fallen off the pace, in part because of a jumbled relay tag in which a US skater was partially blocked by a coasting Chinese competitor. The US finished a distant fourth, but was awarded the bronze when the Korean team, which had finished first, was disqualified after a bumping incident involving a Chinese team member. The final order was China, gold; Canada, silver; and US, bronze.

"There's victory, and there's glory," Reutter said. "This win may not have been so glorious, but even without that it was victorious."

Earlier Wednesday Reutter easily advanced to Friday's quarterfinal round of the women's individual 1000m race by skating an Olympic record time of 1:30.5.
